Here i will show you how to enable SSL in Mail, this is important if you receive sensitive information.

Go to Mail Preferences, now go to "Accounts" tab, now select the account you want to use SSL for from the side bar and click the "Advanced" tab.

You will find a check box "Use SSL" make sure that it's checked.
